Shirley Arnette Clements

Shirley Arnette Clements, 81, died April 27, 2017 in Knightstown, IN after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and faith supported her throughout her struggle and she now rests in peace.

She was born December 10, 1935 in Ocala FL, the daughter of William Ephraim Arnett of Auburndale, FL and Wilma (Cushing) Arnette of Ocala, FL., both who precede her in death. She graduated from Ocala High School in 1953 and went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Nova University where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Psychology. The only thing more impressive than her academic achievements was her green thumb and perfect pound cake.

Shirley was married for over 50 years to Verne Clements, who precedes her in death, and together they raised two children. She is survived by her son, Scott J. (Heidi) Clements, of Woodstock, GA, and daughter, Melissa (Stephen) McCaffrey, of Knightstown, IN and by her grandchildren Justin Whiteside, Sarah (Michael J.) Pence, Ben Callahan, Colton Clements, Laura and Rachel McCaffrey. Before her nine-year battle with cancer, Shirley was a pineapple-growing, rollercoaster-riding, kayaking grandma that loved going on adventures with her grandkids.

Also surviving are her siblings Wynelle Glickstein of Winter Haven, FL, Marvin (Mary) Arnette, of Jacksonville, FL, Janet Collins of Ocala, Florida, Wilma “Jimmie” (Darrell) McKinney of Fayetteville, GA and Sandy Hodge of Bentonville, AR, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Though an active member of her church community, it was Shirley’s wish to forgo a memorial service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel.
