Sidney “Ned” Alley, husband of almost 52 years to his wife Jo Ann, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, January 25, 2015 at the home of his son, Anthony “Tony” Alley, in Brandon, MS. Ned was the son of the late Clarence and Catherine (McClellan) Alley. He was born in Albany, KY on March 11, 1938, but lived most of his life in New Castle, IN.
Ned married his wife, Jo Ann (Prosser) Alley, on March 5, 1963. He is survived by one son, Anthony “Tony” Alley (wife, Coleen), three grandchildren: Brandy Alley of Indianapolis, Joshua Alley of New Castle, and Ashtyn Robinson of Mississippi. Ned leaves three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Alley of Mooreland, Charles “Tre” Kelly of Indianapolis, and Adelaide Robinson of Mississippi. Ned is also survived by his sister Lila DeHart (husband Dale), one brother Donnie “Don” Alley (wife, Sheryl Alley, deceased) of New Castle, and numerous special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: James Alley (wife, Suvella Alley, deceased) and Joe Alley (wife, Theresa Alley, who survives).
Ned worked at New Castle Tire Store for 39 ½ years and enjoyed his job of repairing farm and heavy equipment tires. Upon retiring he helped Wayne McSherly at his business in Spiceland, IN, and Luther Upchurch on his farm in New Castle, IN. He had been a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in New Castle since 1971. Ned enjoyed his family, traveling, and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed helping anyone he could with mechanical work on their vehicles, or just giving advice.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Jim Becker officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. on Sunday at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to an education fund for Ned’s great grandchildren with envelopes available at the funeral home.
