Venard G. Bailey, 84, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was born March 22, 1933 in McRoberts, Ky, a son of the late Lunda and Elvira (Bowling) Bailey.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Venard served during the Korean War, and obtained the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two engagement stars, and the United Nations Medal. He retired from Outu Kumpu (Avesta Sheffield and Ingersoll Steel) after over 45 years of service.
Venard was well known in the area for his expertise as a banjo instructor. He was a preacher of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith, and was a longtime member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in New Castle. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved reading his Bible.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, April (Troy) Watson of Ft. Myers, FL, and Kimberly Bailey of New Castle; two grandsons, Patrick (Linda) Manderson of Anderson, and Jay Manderson of Anderson; two great grandchildren, Ashley and Jesse Manderson, both of New Castle; a sister, Dorothy Carender of Anderson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Smith; two sisters, Arlene Blackburn and Maxine; two brothers, Garland and Silas Bailey.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Rev. Dan Beck officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, Legion Hill.
