William “Wendell” E. Crabtree, 87, of North Vernon, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospice. He was born January 6, 1927 in Monticello, KY a son of William Earl and Flonnie (Morris) Crabtree.
Wendell retired from Firestone following 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Hoosier Beagle Club. Wendell enjoyed bass fishing, golfing, bowling and making wood crafts. He owned race cars, enjoyed NASCAR racing and loved playing, singing and listening to bluegrass music.
He is survived by three children: Marcia (companion: Larry Mogg) Crabtree of New Castle, Wendell (Mary) Crabtree of Kokomo, Troy (Sandy) Crabtree of Kansas City, MO; step daughter: Wanda Sue (Jim) Clarr of New Lisbon; grandchildren: Brent (Denise) Crabtree, Shane (Heidi) Crabtree, Matthew (Emily) Crabtree, Kyle Crabtree; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Christie Lee of North Vernon, Knoxie Frost of Bakers Field, CA; a brother: Estelle “Mousie” Crabtree of New Castle, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 5:00 PM Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Garry Prange officiating. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 3:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
