Maurice Johnson

Maurice E. Johnson, age 90, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. He was born May 16, 1919 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Charles and Nellie (Sweigart) Johnson.

He retired from Chrysler Corporation following 30 years of service as an accountant. Maurice served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge and the Lions Club. He enjoyed working with his hands and had made grandfather clocks for his family members.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Inez Johnson of New Castle; a daughter, Judith (husband: David) Winslow of Gahanna, OH; son-in-law, Frank (wife: Trish) Walls of Anderson; grandchildren, Michelle (husband: Dayton) Saling of Heath, OH, Beth (husband: David) Hunter of Borrego Springs, CA, Jeff (wife: Holly) Walls of New Castle, and Chris (wife: Rachel) Walls of New Castle; great grandchildren: Matthew Saling, Meredith, Madeline and Michael Divine, Harley, Austin and Colten Walls and Emma Walls; brother-in-law, Roland (wife: Wanita) Selke; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Walls; two brothers, Robert (wife: Louise) Johnson and Richard Johnson.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Rex Espiritu officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
