Neda Darlene Witte

Neda Darlene Witte, age 71, of New Castle, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at her residence. She was born April 17, 1940 in Danville, Illinois to the late James S. and Ruby G. (Mikel) Slavin.

She retired from New Castle State Developmental Center in 1994 after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, garage sales, arts and crafts. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Walter W. Witte, Jr. whom she married May 9, 1988; a daughter, Jayme (husband, Kennard) Chalfant of New Castle; stepchildren, John (wife, Karen) Witte of Lawrenceburg, IN, Cynthia (husband, Charlie) Taylor of Mainville, OH, Susan (husband, Brent) Mahoney of Columbus, IN, Daniel Witte (special friend, Dee) of Indianapolis and Michael Witte of Indianapolis; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Dr. Creta Marlene (husband, Jim) Roberts of Losantville; aunt, Jean Staton of Hoopston, IL; several nieces and nephews including Candice Smith and James Matthew (wife, Beth Ann) Smith III.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Richard Carnes; a grandson, Michael Richard Carnes, II.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Joe Rautenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle where a Rosary Service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Indiana Chapter of the Multiple Sclorosis Society, 7301 Georgetown Rd. #112, Indianapolis, IN 46268-4157 or St. Anne Catholic Church building fund, 102 N.19th St., New Castle, IN 47362 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
