Beth L. Conway, 78, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at The Addison Place in New Castle. She was born November 19, 1940 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Daniel and Evelyn (Hufferd) Pierce.
Beth proudly grew up in the Irvington district of Indianapolis, and graduated from Howe High School in 1958. She received her Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education from Ball State University and Indiana University East. She enjoyed substitute teaching which she did in all the Henry County School systems as well as neighboring counties. She also worked for AAA Travel in New Castle and then for The Courier-Times as a staff writer for several years.
A longtime member of the First Christian Church in Mooreland, and a lover of music, Beth sang for several years with the gospel group Sounds of Joy along with Sandy Brown, Glenda Miller and Mary Murray. They performed all over central Indiana. She was also a member of Christian Women United and Gingham Gals of Mooreland. An avid Euchre player, she played for years with the Euchre Club from her church and began a Euchre Club when she moved to the Addison Place. She enjoyed swimming and was active in First Nighters Civic Theatre, where she had played the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz. For many years, she actively volunteered at the Wilbur Wright Birthplace Museum.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 59 years, Dan Conway of New Castle; three sons, Tim (Suzanne) Conway of Frederick, CO; Scott (Julie) Conway of Farmland, and Nathan (Lara) Conway of New Castle; grandchildren, Holly Conway (fiancé, Nathan Hawkins) of New Castle, Katherine Conway of Nice, France, Autumn Conway (fiancé, Mitchell Elliott) of Muncie, Jason Conway of Frederick, CO, Clayton Conway of New Castle, and Crystal Conway of Frederick, CO; a sister, Judy (Bob) Lauer of Noblesville; two sisters in law, Joanne Pierce of Atlanta, GA and Marcia Kay Caine of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews; and Amanda Saunders who could connect with Beth when others couldn’t.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Kent Pierce, and a brother in law, Wally Caine.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at First Christian Church in Mooreland with Pastor Nathan Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
