Betty Jean Gaddis

Betty Jean Gaddis, 74, of New Castle died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial in Muncie. She was born May 16, 1946 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Keith and Cora (Todd) Pope.

She was a 1964 graduate of Mt. Summit High School. Betty raised her children and worked a number of jobs, eventually retiring from Citizens State Bank. After retiring from the bank, Betty was a caregiver to several individuals. She was a member of Park Place Free Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She currently attended Buck Creek Church of the Brethren. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends and never missed a Mooreland Fair. She liked camping, gardening and was very caring and concerned for all animals.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Gaddis whom she married in 2000; sister, Karen (Eddie) Poole of Middletown; children, Sherry (John) Barlow of Muncie, Gregory Ballenger of Anderson and Beth (Tony) Thompson of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Briana Ballenger, Christopher Barlow, Wesley Ballenger, Colin Barlow, Christian Ballenger, Jacque (Tim) Mullin, Jesse Thompson, Katie Thompson, Joel (Macy) Thompson and Cassie Naylor; great grandchildren, Ariah, Braidyn, Chazdynn, Jerycha, Emma, Deegan, Lilli, Audri, James, Jonah, Jaron, Cordel and Ezra; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wendell Ballenger; a great grandson, Austin; a brother, David Pope; paternal grandparents Vesty and Faye Pope; and maternal grandparents, William and Leona Todd.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Kevin Whitmore officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition in New Castle. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army, 2500 Washington Street, New Castle, IN 47362, Buck Creek Church of the Brethren, 8802 North Buck Creek Pike, Mooreland, IN 47360 or Henry County Humane Society, 11 Midway Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
