Betty Ruth Shull

Betty Ruth Shull, 90, of New Castle passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at Henry Community Hospital. She was born August 30, 1926 in Rush County to the late Charles Russell Bates and Geneva (Reger) Clem.

Betty loved quilting, making over 650 quilts for abused children in Hazard, KY and around 37 full quilts for miners in West Virginia. She continually made quilts and dolls for children in local hospitals, churches and senior home. Betty had been employed as the activities director at Westminster Village Community in Muncie, ICAP on different occasions, and Farm Bureau in New Castle. She retired in 1991. She was a member of Park Place Free Methodist Church in New Castle and affiliated with Parents without Partners and Church Buddies. Betty also enjoyed baking and being with friends.

She is survived by her children, Tina Roland of Denver, CO; Steven Shull of New Castle; Teresa Vandy of Coatsville, IN; sisters, Vernice Shelton of Marshall, NC; Metha Holly of Summerfield, FL; Jean Ann Thompkins of Frankton, IN; brother, Jerry Lee Clem of Lynn, IN; five grand children, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Hickman from Park Place Free Methodist Church in New Castle officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be Monday, June 26 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
