Bobbie Minford Owens

March 6, 1932 — June 18, 2020

Bobbie Minford Owens, 88, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on June 18, 2020. He passed from this life surrounded by loved ones and in the peace and comfort of his home.

Bobbie was born in Albany, KY on March 6, 1932, the son of the late Pearl Guffey Denney and Wesley Owens. His first mode of transportation was a horse and he spent his younger years exploring the rolling bluegrass fields with his late brothers, Dewey Owens, Emory Owens, Jimmy Denney and Lee Denney.

He moved to New Castle where he met and married his late wife, Hazel (Pierce) Owens, on March 24, 1951. Together, they enjoyed collecting and selling antiques and also ran a small bike shop with refurbished and customized bicycles.

Bobbie worked and retired from Ingersoll Steel and he owned and operated Bob’s Gun Shop on 21st St. and Grand Ave. for more than 40 years, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for firearms with his loyal customers.

He enjoyed going on walks, bird watching, riding his bicycle and watching classic Western movies, but nothing compared to his fondness for target shooting and firearm sports. He was an expert marksman and was happiest on a warm afternoon at the range. He competed and won dozens of national and regional firearms competitions in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Florida and was a life-long member of the National Rifle Association.

Bobbie shared the last 19 years with Jaqueline “Jackie” Sidwell of New Castle, who was his partner in life and faith. He cherished their time together, especially their trip to Albany to his visit his childhood home, and looked forward to sharing the meals Jackie prepared and brought over every evening.

He was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church for nearly 60 years.
He is survived by his children, Bobbie K Owens (Libby Jewell) of Columbus, IN and Sherry Lynn Owens (Jon) McNulty of Lakewood, CO and his beloved granddaughters, Ale Owens (Joe) DesJean of Charlotte, NC, Carleigh Owens of Columbus, IN and Lili Faye McNulty of Lakewood, CO and great-granddaughters Caroline and Kathryn DesJean of Charlotte, NC.
Bobbie and his family were also blessed with the friendship of Mike Denny, who graciously lent a helping hand on many occasions over the last few years.
