Bobby Joe Chesher

July 27, 1936 - February 15, 2021

Bobby Joe Chesher, 84, of New Castle passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at I.U. Ball Hospital in Muncie. He was born July 27, 1936 in Hagerstown, Indiana, a son of the late John and Carry (Gentry) Chesher. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was two time Air Force Golden Glove Champion. He retired from Dana Corporation following 30 years of service. After retirement from Dana, he worked at Sears in Muncie, then the State Highway Department, for many years. Bob loved NASCAR racing, dirt track racing and in his earlier years, racing cars himself. He restored Model A and Model T cars with his brother-in-law, Bob Wood, for several years. He had a passion for watching his great grandson race quarter midgets, and watching his children & grandchildren play sports, never missing one game. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Thelma J. Chesher; children, Jeff (Diana) Chesher of New Castle, Brenda (Doug) Boyd of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Randy (LeAnn) Chesher of Middletown and Danny (Tracy) Chesher of Albany; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lora) Chesher, Kaleigh (Nathan) Waters, Katie (Trent) Goforth, Amy (Josh) Golliher, Marcus (Mandy) Boyd, Darci (Brinton) Gray, Brittney (Shawn) Frazier, Dustin (Mikala) Chesher, Tessa Chesher, and T. J. Moles; great grandchildren, Elisabeth (Clayton), Annalyn, Jaycie, Ethan, Lexi, Austin, Levi, Harper, Joselyn, Taylor, Aubrey, Rylan, Bristol, Camden, Tysin, Conner, Daxtin,and Carlee; one great great grandson, due in May; sister, Patty West of New Castle; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Chesher; great grandson, Jayden Golliher; five brothers & five sisters. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Denny Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion/VFW and the United States Air Force. Due to COVID-19 and the governor’s mandate face coverings will be required.
