He accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was 9 years old at Sandusky Chapel Baptist Church in Wayne County, KY, and was a member there until he began his journey as a minister. During his ministry he served as pastor at Newtown Baptist Mission in Monticello, KY; Cave Springs Baptist Church in Albany, KY; Benton Baptist Church in Harrodsburg, KY; Northside Baptist Church in Science Hill, KY; and Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle, IN. Besides being a pastor, he served on many other capacities in the different Associations and State Conventions and also in each community where he lived. He loved the Kentucky Wildcats almost as much as he loved joking and having fun.
