Bobby Hugh Thompson, 86, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 quietly at his home after an extended illness. He was the son of Ed and Abbie Thompson, born in a log cabin in Kentucky on September 4, 1932. He attended Maize Elementary School and graduated from Lewisville High School. Bobby worked at Chrysler until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1952. He spent the next 2 years serving on ships that were transporting equipment to Alaska during the Korean War.
After an honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Correna, on June 4, 1955. This led to the birth of 2 sons: Robert Mark (wife Marilyn) and Matthew Wayne (wife Susie). Bobby enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren: Amanda (husband Josh) Huss, Brandon (wife Jamie) Thompson, Betsy (husband Jeff) Veytia, and Emily (companion Ben Bright) Neal. This in-turn led to the enjoyment of his great grandchildren: Sylvia and Evelyn Huss, Alexander and Tryston Thompson, Bailey and Canyon Veytia, and Danté Bright. Bobby enjoyed the company of his sister, Peggy Sue Boling, and would see her as often as possible.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, an older sister, Evelyn, and a brother-in-law, Richard Boling.
Bobby was an avid farmer and antiquer. If he wasn’t working in the fields, he was hunting for a good deal. Traveling all across the east coast would yield truck loads of trunks to refinish and furniture and other rare finds to collect or resell. Bobby and Correna traveled the globe, extending from across the U.S. to exotic locations like Spain, Italy, England, Scotland, Whales, Ireland, Austria, France, Mexico, Canada, Holland, and Switzerland, to name a few. Bobby enjoyed listening to country music and playing his guitar.
Bobby leaves behind a lifetime of memories for those who knew him. He was always joking and smiling, sharing his love of life to everyone nearby. There was so much to his life that it’s impossible to put on paper. Eighty-six years of love, laughter, and living are hard to write down. Bobby lived life fully everyday and will be dearly missed.
