Brian E. Whybrew

Brian E. Whybrew, 51, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 13, 2024 following a motorcycle accident. He was born May 21, 1972 in Muncie, son of Philip and Pamela (Swartz) Whybrew.

Brian graduated from Delta High School in 1991, and joined the U.S. Army. He retired from the Army following 21 years of Honorable Service. During those years, Brian earned many awards and recognitions, Reaching the rank of Sergeant. One of his many leadership positions was Team Leader of an infantry team. He joined the US Army as an 11C Indirect Fire Infantryman. He honorably served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Bosnia, and did humanitarian missions during Hurricane Katrina and others. He was stationed in Germany, Bosnia, Q’West, Iraq, and several other places.

He was a member of Open Arms Church in New Castle and was a Patriot Guard rider. He was a member of the American Legion #132 and the VFW #1282. An avid supporter of the NRA (National Rifle Association), Brian also enjoyed collecting guns and restoring military vehicles. Traveling, random adventures with his wife, camping, boating, and bonfires were among some of his favorite things to do. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed yard work and always had an array of projects in the works.

His favorite little person was his granddaughter, Mia, who called him Pop Pop. Full of love, Brian loved to have fun and gave great advice to those in need. His soldiers called him a “great leader”, and respected and requested his opinion. He was an avid supporter with his wife of the Little League, Babe Ruth and Miracle League programs. Never missed a practice or game for his son, Mason.

Leaving to cherish his memory is his wife, The Love of his Life, whom he married January 29, 2004, Bethany (Bulmer) Whybrew of New Castle; children, Mason Warren, Madison Warren, both of New Castle, and Shelbi Hunt of South Bend; his father, Philip Whybrew of Albany, IN; his granddaughter, Mia Dior Burris of New Castle; a sister, Kristina Whybrew of Albany, IN; a brother, David (Mary) Whybrew; a special cousin/brother, Matt Swartz; his mother in law, Brenda Bulmer of New Castle; brother-in-law, James Bulmer, and his children, Allie and Haidyn Bulmer of New Castle; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pamela Whybrew of Albany.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
