Carrie M. Shores

March 10, 1927 — April 11, 2021

Carrie Marie Shores, 94, of Muncie passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born March 10, 1927 in Springport, Indiana, a daughter of the late Ralph and Lula (Rutledge) Lane.

A graduate of Mt. Summit High School, Carrie attended Ball State University. She originally worked as a licensed beautician and enjoyed selling Avon products. Later on, Carrie was employed in the Henry County Auditor’s Office. After several years there, she worked for more than 20 years in the Patient Records Office of Ball Hospital. Carrie was a member of the Springport Christian Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. When her children were younger, Carrie was active with them in 4-H. She always appreciated farm life and watching the sunsets and sunrises. An avid Pacers and Colts fan, Carrie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, playing solitaire on her computer, and collecting elephant charms and ornaments. Above all, Carrie was dedicated to her children and her family.

Survivors include a grandson, Marion Hammond of Muncie; nieces: Sandra (William) Whitten of Holmdel, NJ, Julianna Stotz of Springfield, VA, Nancy Snyder of Indianapolis and Rosemary Lane of El Cerrito, CA; nephews: Jonathan & Timothy Jarrett, both of Inverness, FL; great-nieces: Jennifer Whitten, Amanda (Jeffrey) James, Emily Whitten, Kathleen (Vivek) Chakrabortty, Michelle (Sergio) Alcoser, Trinity LaFlower, and Brittany Snyder; great-nephews: Joseph Stotz and Jon Jarrett; a stepdaughter: Sherry (Eugene) Wilbur and her children, Brandee (Jonathan) Price and Michael Wilbur; and a dear friend, Mary Madder.

In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband: Gene Hammond; children, Marie Elaine Craig, Gene DeWayne Hammond, and Cheryl Lynn Hammond; her sisters: Mildred Jester and Ina Mae Jarrett, and her brother: Marion Lane.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 24 at Springport Christian Church with Pastor Tad Mills officiating. Visitation will be from 12-1:00. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport.
