Charles Smith

Charles Smith, 85, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, July 15 2021 at his residence. He was born July 3, 1936 in Knott County, Kentucky the son of Philip and Sylvia (McKee) Smith.

Charles retired from Indiana Department of Transportation in 2000 after 15 years of service. He was a former member in the Knightstown Church of God and currently attended Faith United Baptist church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farm animals, especially horses.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Della “Louise” Smith; son, Vester Smith of Greenfield; daughters, Tammy (Dennis) Mix of Knightstown, Deanna L. (James) Collins of Greenfield, Melanie (Tim) Denney of Shirley, and Shannon (Mike) Tompkins of Shirley; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Mike Dora; son-in-law, Kevin Neff; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cecil and Colleen Stites; ten brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Tim Denney officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Awareness Assn. of Central Indiana, PO Box 19575, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
