Clayton Collins

February 11, 1932 — August 14, 2017

Clayton Collins, 85, of New Castle, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at his home following an extended illness. He was born February 11, 1932 in Bath County, KY, a son of the late Marvin and Mary Ruth (Goodpaster) Collins.

A 1950 graduate of Salt Lick High School, Salt Lick, Kentucky, Clayton worked in construction before working at Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, where he retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was a man of great faith and attended South Memorial Drive Church of God where he served on the Board and church council for several years. He was also involved with the Men’s and Senior groups at the church and the church food pantry. He and his wife were blessed to spend the winters in Florida for 23 years, where he attended the South Lake Wales Church of God.

Clayton enjoyed bowling, hunting, but especially enjoyed fishing. Making an annual fishing trip to Canada for over 50 years, Clayton also loved fishing in Lake Erie and in Florida. He especially loved spending time with his great grandsons Trey and Toby, and watching them participate in soccer and football.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 66 years, Lorena (Harding) Collins of New Castle, whom he married November 25, 1950; a daughter, Vicki (Ralph) Fairchild of New Castle; a grandson, Brian (Honey) Hunt of New Castle; two great grandsons, Trey and Toby Hunt; three step granddaughters, Bobbie York, Angie (Rick) Davis, and Tracy (Allen) Johnson, all of New Castle; three step great granddaughters, Skylar Pierce of Shelbyville, Jordan (Andy) Catron of New Castle, and Chanlar (Jack) Seymour of Richmond; two nephews, Danny and Joe Ramey, both of New Castle; two nieces, Robin (Steve) Padgett and Sharon Davis, both of New Castle; an uncle, Rev. Harold (Jane) Goodpaster of New Castle, and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Vada (Jim) Ramey, Inez (Wilmer) Razor, Aileen (John) Stone, and Dorothy (Jim) Cole, in laws, Bill and Jo Harding, brothers in law, Charles JoAnn) Harding, and Billy Harding; three nieces, Patty Osborn, Donna Robertson, and Sheila Harding; a nephew, Garry Stone.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at South Memorial Drive Church of God with Pastors Chris Gamello and Mark Martin officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition with Rev. Harold Goodpaster officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to South Memorial Drive Church of God, 3800 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
