Clayton Ross Roland

Clayton Ross Roland, 31, of Indianapolis, passed away September 11, 2017 at his residence. He was born November 16, 1985 in New Castle a son of Jeff “Bo” Roland of Greenfield and Amy (Rose) Ellis of Greenfield.

A 2004 graduate of Greenfield Central High School, Clayton joined the Marines the day he turned 18. He attended the Chef’s Academy in Indianapolis before moving to the “culinary mecca” of Charleston, SC to train as a “real” chef, working in prestigious restaurants such as Grill 225, one of America’s top five steak houses, and Peninsula Grill under Iron Chef runner-up Graham Daley. He fell in love with the Farm to Table concept. An Indiana boy, he brought his cooking talents back to Indiana and was currently an executive chef at Hickory House Recovery Center in Greenfield. Clayton was happiest cooking in the kitchen and was an avid Indiana Hoosiers and Colts fan. He was also a history buff, very knowledgeable about wars and other countries and loved the History channel. Clayton was a wonderful uncle and extremely close to his niece, Rilee and his nephews, Austin and Cooper. Had a very close bond with his uncle Art and enjoyed watching and attending UFC fights together.

In addition to his parents, Clayton is survived by two brothers, Corey Roland (Taylor Hackerd) of Greenfield and Caleb Roland of Greenfield; step-father, Bob Ellis; maternal grandfather, Phil Rose of Knightstown; nieces and nephews, Rilee, Austin and Cooper Roland all of Greenfield; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his dog, Caesar.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Juanda Rose; and paternal grandparents, Wilfred and Manda Roland.

Services will be at 7:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Ron Mills officiating. Friends may call from 4 PM until time of service. Condolences and memories of Clayton may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com .
