Curtis Maurice Ballard, age 79, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on October 22, 2021 in Hudson, Florida; formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana. His firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Curtis was born November 2, 1941 to Louis E Ballard and Dorothy M Ballard (Hensley). He married the love of his life, Mary Joan (Otter), in May 1958 and was married 38 years until her passing in June 1996.
Curtis is survived by his four children: Curtis Jr (Kathi), Lucinda (Cindy) Kirby, Kevin (Jason), Melinda Jackman (Charles) and one step-son Donald Jones; two siblings: Jeannie Huffman and Ronald Ballard; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is preceded in death by two wives: Mary Joan (Otter) and Roberta (Merrick); five siblings: Jack, Jed, Jervis, Richard and Patricia Pryor and two grandchildren; Zechariah Kruse and Dorothy Ballard.
Curtis was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend and a devoted Christian who never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. He served as an usher and was very active in his church. He was an avid woodworker and would spend many hours in his garage working on projects. Curtis was active in the Special Olympics and enjoyed playing Santa every year and teaching wood working techniques.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Acton Cemetery in Acton, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
