Daisy Van Hook, 91, a resident of New Castle passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born October 8, 1925 in Greenwood, KY to the late Ernie and Wagie (Casada) Griffis.
Daisy was employed at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base during the war. A homemaker, she belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Home Ec Club. Daisy was a member of the Church of Christ on County Road 200 North and was also a Bible Class teacher. She had previously sold Avon in Middletown, enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and collecting baby dolls. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters: Patty Van Hook and Sandi (Jerry) Hoots, both of New Castle; two granddaughters: Emily (Nathan) Sorrells of Franklin and Leslie (Lee) McGaughey of Greenfield; three great-grandchildren: Carter, Corinn and Owen Sorrells; a brother: Jerry (Jane) Griffis of Muncie; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Ollie Ray Van Hook; step-mother: Gladys Griffis; three brothers: Coy, Orel and Preston Griffis; sister-in-law: Louise Griffis; two brothers-in-law and their wives: Homer Lee and Sarah Van Hook and Russell and Lucille Van Hook; a niece: Bobbie Sue Sawerwold and a great-nephew: Preston Griffis.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Phil Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, June 27 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to IU Hospice, Henry County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
