Rev. Dr. David L. Perry, age 74, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born February 7, 1942 in New Castle to the late Alva Lee and Ida Mae (Smith) Perry.
A 1960 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School, he attended Earlham School of Religion and I.U. Extension classes. David also graduated from Southwest Bible College and Seminary. He was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene in 1973. Rev. Perry and his wife pastored several churches over the years, including Churches of the Nazarene in New Castle (Southside), Warrington, IN, Greensburg, IN, Speedway, IN, Greensboro, IN, Moberly, MO, Maulden, MO, Baxter Springs, KS; also Bible Missionary Churches in Peru, IN, Pleasant Grove, AL, and Rogers, AR. He had also served as District Evangelist for the Church of the Nazarene for a year and a half. He was an avid amateur radio operator. He loved to entertain with his guitar and “Hillybilly Sam” routine.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, whom he married October 9, 1960, Shirley J. (Witham) Perry of New Castle; four children, Debbie (Pete) Norwood of Rogers, AR, Rev. Randy (Nellie) Perry of Indianapolis, Rev. Dr. Kelly (Cindy) Perry of Macon, MO, and Tina (Rev. Rick) Rigney of Seven Springs, NC; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Denney of New Castle, and Edna Edwards of Cooper, KY; two brothers, Alva Perry, Jr. and Avery Perry, both of New Castle; several nieces and nephews; his girl dogs Gigi and Laci.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Lee and Ida Mae (Smith) Perry; a brother, James Dexter Perry and a sister, Betty Grooms.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Southside Church of the Nazarene in New Castle with Dr. Ted Lee, and Rev. Dan Cook officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church.
