Donald Eugene Harry, Jr., 84, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born February 2, 1935 in New Castle to the late Donald Eugene Harry, Sr. and Mary (Richardson) Rohrback.
Donald was a graduate of New Castle High School and a veteran of the US Army. He was employed in the steel industry, starting at Pan American Bridge in New Castle. Over the course of his career he managed metal building and steel manufacturing plants with American Ship Building Co., National Steel Products Corp., and Republic Steel Corp. Donald was an exceptional carpenter and enjoyed designing and building projects like gazebos to birdhouses. A favorite pastime he shared with his late wife Janice was searching for and restoring antiques. Donald was an avid fisherman, and spent many a weekend camping with family and friends. In his retirement he was known around the Black Road neighborhood for the pleasure he took in the landscaping and gardening of his lawn.
He is survived by two daughters, Angi McCarty of New Castle and Marci Paden of League City, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer (Taylor) Paden Stanley of Columbia, SC; two great grandchildren, William and Margaret Stanley; sister Phyllis Holloway of New Castle; brother-in-law Donald (Joan) Alexander; sister-in-law Judith (Wallace) Hanson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Janice Rose (Alexander) Harry, an infant son, Brady Scott Harry, sister Martha (Harold) Kennedy Wheeler, brother-in-law Darrell Holloway, sister-in-law Bertha (Elbert) Mathes, and brother-in-law Ralph (Helen) Hannah.
Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with military rites conducted by the US Army and American Legion and VFW. Burial will be at South Mound Cemetery - West Lawn Addition at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.
