Earl Davis, 94, passed away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. He was born March 23, 1923 in Slickford, KY to Tatum and Minerva Marsh Davis. He was the youngest of 14 children.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during WWII from December 5, 1945 till December 23, 1946. He married Glenna Dishman on September 9, 1942 in Monticello, KY.
As a young man he worked on his family’s farm and on the building of Dale Hollow Dam in Kentucky. After marrying and coming to New Castle he worked at Selmer’s Piano Shop and Trainor Springs. He also worked at Val Corporation as a maintenance repairman for several years. He and his son, Rick, worked together as self-employed carpenters until his retirement in 1989. Earl was ordained as a minister in the Morehead, Kentucky Church of God conference. He pastored several small churches in New Castle in his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna on September 28, 1989. His son Ronald was killed in Vietnam in 1968, His brothers, Emerson, Marshall, Bill, James, Amberos, Addie, Pertle and Ernie, and sisters, Ida, Dicey, Merta, Perna and Pearl preceded him in death as well.
Survivors include his son, Rick (Debbie) Davis of New Castle, grandchildren, Lori (Keith) Phillips of Cornelius, NC; Ron (Barb) Davis of New Castle; Jonathon (Carrie) Davis of Springport and Kristen (Lucas) Hicks of Spiceland; eight great-grandchildren, Jakob Davis, Austin Hicks, Cooper and Kynslee Davis, Madeleine and Annabelle Davis, Micayla and Kendall Phillips.
He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Cathy (Dennis) Hamilton and their daughters, Sarah Hamilton, Marianne (Noel) Lopez-Hamilton and their children, Sebastian, Miles and Elena, several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Addison Place in New Castle for their care of Earl since May of 2015.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church in New Castle with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery.
