Elda Jean Dobbs

Elda Jean Dobbs, 89, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Heritage House of New Castle following a brief illness. She was born June 24, 1929 in Sloan’s Valley, Pulaski County, KY, a daughter of the late Herbert and Sarah Elizabeth (Alsip) Wilson.
Jean was a founding member of the New Salem United Baptist Church in New Castle and also attended Fellowship Baptist Church. She had worked at Val Corp. in New Castle and the canning factory in Mt. Summit. She loved to crochet, sew, make dolls, draw pictures and write poetry about her childhood.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Peggy (Phil) Doddridge of Kennard, Jerry Dobbs of Cookeville, TN, Kathy (Charles) Cox of Treasure Island, FL, Dennis (Cathy) Dobbs of New Castle, and Kimberly (Steve) Dobbs-Daffron of New Castle; grandchildren, Sarah Davidson of Kennard, Cameron Doddridge (Amy Rogness) of Noblesville, Karen (Brandon) Bush of OK, Chris (Jackie) Dobbs of Cookeville, TN, Gerald Browning of Shelby, NC, Latisha Cox of New Castle, Brandon Litton of Greenwood, Shawn Binion of Kennard, Joshua Dobbs of New Castle, Hannah Dobbs of New Castle, Ethan McMahan of New Castle; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great -great grandchildren; brother, Joe (Shirley) Wilson of Sydney, OH; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Wilburn “Ike” Dobbs, whom she married October 23, 1948; sisters, Emma Roberts, Ethel Wilson, Alma Voiles, Mona May Wilson, Trula Strunk-Felkins and Cleda Denney; brothers, Russell Wilson, Herbert Wilson Jr., and Floyd Lee “Flip” Wilson.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 P.M. noon on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with services beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon at the funeral home with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, Florida 34655.
