Elsworth “Dick” Masters, 78, of Spiceland passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born September 18, 1939 in Carter County, Kentucky to the late Burt Voyence and Zola Mae (Hamilton) Masters.
Dick was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and served two years active duty then in the reserves for four years. On October 29, 1966, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Bellamy. Dick retired from Ingersoll Steel in New Castle following 30 years of employment. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the races at Mt. Lawn Speedway. Later in life, he enjoyed caring for his lawn, walking the streets of Spiceland and sitting in the sun on his front porch. Most of all, he loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren. Dick was a member of the Spiceland Church of the Nazarene for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Masters; children, Tammy Masters, Ashley (Mary) Masters all of Spiceland; grandchildren, Brittney Barrett, Samantha Masters, Jacob Jackson and Andrew Masters; siblings, Faye Egan of Knightstown and Roger Masters of Greensburg; sisters in law, Maxine Gallager and Wanda Kirby; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Jr. Maloyed officiating with burial following at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
