Erma Jo Hart

Erma Jo Hart passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie. She was born in Yamacraw, Kentucky on January 16, 1933 to Lona C. and Clara (Taylor) Boling.

She graduated in 1951 from New Castle High School and started working as an Indiana Bell telephone operator. She then married the love of her life, Leland Max Hart on August 2, 1953. They traveled to many places in Europe and lived in France during his service with the U.S. Army. She and Max moved back to New Castle, Indiana in 1956 and started a family.

Erma spent many years with the Women’s Bible Study Group as a leader in New Castle. She made many wonderful lifelong friends through this group and enriched so many lives with her teachings. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothing for her children and grandchildren, blankets, and even pillow cases for her family. She also enjoyed crocheting. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens and giving of her bounty for others to enjoy. She had the most beautiful roses in the neighborhood. Erma was a member of the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in New Castle, IN. Erma also worked at Chrysler Corporation, New Castle State Hospital as a telephone operator, and Henry County Hospital.

She is survived by her loving husband Leland “Max” Hart of New Castle; daughter, Kimberly (Chuck) Casada of Muncie; sons; Kevin (Kathy) Hart of Greenwood and Scott (Angie) Hart of Greenfield.

Erma is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Kathryn and Stefanie Casada, Lisa (Travis) Hawkins, Courtney (Jerry) Muir, Rebecca Hart, Joshua (Kenzie) Hart, Emily (fiancé Cory) Hart and 3 great-grandchildren, Layla and Max Muir and Alice Hawkins; brothers, Gerald (Sandy) Boling, Eddie (Karen) Boling, Larrell (Wanda) Boling, David (Shirley) Boling, Roger (Suella) Boling and Steven Boling; sisters, Sheila (Ken) Key and Vickie Chalfant; sisters-in-law, Donna Boling and Peggy Boling; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve Hart, brothers, Lona C. Boling, Jr., Cecil and Delores Boling, Richard Boling and Johnny Boling.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Private services for the family will follow with her son, Kevin Hart officiating.
