Glen "Spider" Jordan, Jr.
January 23, 1926 — January 25, 2020
Glen “Spider” Jordan, Jr., 94, of Wilkinson passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at his residence. He was the oldest of ten children, born January 23, 1926 in Shirley, Indiana to the late Glen Sr. and Letha (Hedrick) Jordan.
“Spider” received his high school diploma from Knightstown High School in 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft machinist from March 1944 to March 1946 during World War II.
On October 21, 1950, he married the love of his life, Vivian B. Wright. They were inseparable for 62 years until her passing in February of 2013.
In addition to raising his youngest sister, Kathy, they were parents of daughters, Gwendolyn (Richard) Strough of Fortville and Cheryl (Ron) McIntosh of New Castle; son, Rick Jordan, Zephyrhills, FL. They have four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, “Spider” was active in the community. He helped organize and coach Shirley Little League Baseball, was a member of Shirley Lions Club, served on the Administrative Board of Eastern Hancock School Corporation, and was a member of Shirley Masonic Lodge for 68 years.
He was very patriotic and enjoyed politics. Elected seven times as Brown Township Trustee, he ultimately served a total of 28 years in that role.
He enjoyed working outdoors, was an avid gardener, and spent countless hours tending his yard. He loved IU basketball. Earlier in life, he enjoyed bowling on men’s leagues and mixed doubles leagues with his wife.
He had been employed for 43 years at Delco Remy in Anderson and retired as a tool & die maker in 1991.
During the years, he and his wife were raising four young children, he often worked second jobs at Shirley Lumber Yard and Shirley Bottle Gas.
The oldest and only surviving of 10 siblings, he was preceded in death by his wife; sisters Patty, Sue and Kathy; brothers Bob, Jimmy, Max, Art, Bill and Charlie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 396, Shirley, IN 47384 where Glen and his wife were lifelong members.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29 at the funeral home. There will be Masonic rites conducted by the Shirley Masonic Lodge at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
