Gobel Jay Sparks, 90, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at The Waters of New Castle. He was born April 27, 1928 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to the late James and Carrie (Keaton) Sparks.
Gobel started his life at the age of ten as a horse back mail carrier. He was a skilled carpenter for many years, building several homes in the White Estates Edition. He loved his beagles, hunting, fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his companion of 19 years, Zita Shelton of Hillsboro; children, Bob (companion, Annette) Sparks of Richmond, Don (wife, Teri) Sparks of Spiceland, Patricia (husband, George) Grigson of New Castle, Tim Sparks of Dayton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; several great grand children; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Hedges; grandson, Manuel Rascon and 8 siblings.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Greg York officiating. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
