Grace "Lavon" Thompson

Grace L. "Lavon" Thompson, 74, of Elkhart, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Elkhart Hospice House, surrounded by her family. Lavon was born on August 20, 1943 in East Chicago, IN.

As Grace L. Sublett, she married Ernest "Vernon" Thompson Jr. on December 24, 1962. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her loving mother, Thelma (Bowen) Sublett.

She is survived by three daughters; Jane Thompson of Hobart, Donna Thompson of South Bend, and Amanda (Jon) Wirt of Elkhart: four granddaughters; Courtney Stephens (David), Erica Wirt, Olivia and Ying Thompson; two great grandchildren, Kailey and Hayden; one brother, Gene (Peggy) Sublett of Flowery Branch, GA and two sisters, Vera Childs and Donna Meade both of Morehead, KY.

Lavon was employed by Citizen's State Bank in New Castle for 30 years, retiring in 2001. During her employment, she served in many capacities including loan administration, management and at the time of her retirement was the marketing director.

In her free time, she and Vernon were motorcycle enthusiasts and members of the "Cornfield Cloggers" dance group, even appearing on television. She enjoyed going to the beach, watching old time British television, reading and she especially enjoyed going shopping. She also enjoyed sweets, whether it was cookies or candies! While all of these activities brought her great joy, her one true love was her family.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Dr. New Castle, IN where services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Lavon may be made to Susan G.
