Gustave Michael Mondrush Jr.

June 11, 1932 — August 26, 2017

Gustave “Gus” Michael Mondrush Jr., was born on June 11, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA. He passed away peacefully on August 26, 2017 at the age of 85. He was the son of Gustave M. Mondrush Sr. and Helen Zbieratzki Mondrush.

Gus graduated from Dearborn High, Dearborn, MI in 1949 and from Wayne State University College of Pharmacy in 1953. He did post graduate studies at University of Michigan College of Pharmacy where he was offered a teaching assistantship. He was a Merck Award winner. Gus was an active member of Rho Chi Honor Society. He was a Registered Pharmacist and a Doctor of Pharmacy. Gus was employed by several pharmacies during his 63 years and 10 months as a pharmacist. Barbas, Rite Aid, Seward, Kroger Sav-on, Hooks, Reliable and for the last 16 years he worked at Marsh Pharmacy. After retirement, he continued helping fellow pharmacists as a relief pharmacist. He was a MH3 in the U.S. Navy and was Honorably Discharged. Gus was co-founder in a plastics, vehicle prototype and design company, Synthetex Inc., in Michigan. He was also founder and owner of Mondrush Technologies, Inc. Gus enjoyed walking in the woods and planting a garden. He loved classical music. He was instrumental in the restoration of Hoover Hall in Spiceland. He served on the South Henry Regional Waste District Board and on the Spiceland Town Board.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lila Jarvis Mondrush, and five children, Karen Fink of Chandler, AZ; Louise (Jeff) Davies of Madison, AL; Judy Schultz of Centerville, OH; Virginia (Bill) Martin of Fishers, IN; and Steven (Melissa) Mondrush of Spiceland, IN; twelve grandchildren, Luke Fink, James Fink, Jason Davies, Gillian Schultz, Roger Schultz III, Kathryn Martin, John Martin, AnnaRose Martin, Drew Mondrush, Sam Mondrush, Owen Mondrush, and Emma Mondrush; sisters-in-law, Daphna Palamar of Nashville, MI and Geneva Valentine of West Bloomfield, MI; brother-in-law, Jacob Palamar, brother, Ronald L. (Pam) Mondrush of Milford, MI; sister, Doris Jane (Don) Kutch of Sierra Vista, AZ, several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Calling will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion/VFW and the United States Navy. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Albany, KY at the convenience of the family.
