Harold "Wayne" Hedges

Harold “Wayne” Hedges, 61, of New Castle, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie. He was born June 15, 1956 in Washington, the son of the late Harold L. and Wilma (Bertram) Hedges.

A 1974 graduate of Blue River Valley High School, Wayne retired from Allegheny Ludlum in New Castle. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. He was a special Deputy with Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

Wayne was presently Vice President of the Henry County Shrine Club, and served as President in 2016. He founded their annual Easter Egg Hunt for disabled children. He was also a member of the Hillbilly Shrine Club at the Murpah Shrine Club in Muncie. Being a Shriner, and what he did to help children in the Shriners Hospitals was Wayne’s passion in life. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias in New Castle.

He also enjoyed bowling, and was in the Henry County Bowlers Hall of Fame, and had served as President of the Henry County Bowling Association. He also like to fish.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ella Hedges of New Castle, whom he married October 9, 1992; two sons, Jeremy Hedges (Amanda Brake) of New Castle, and Josh (Emily) Hedges of New Castle; grandchildren, Sydney Hedges, Quentin and Kaleb Hedges; three step-sons, Jeremy (Kelly) Weaver of Muncie, Jason (Bern) Weaver of Indianapolis, and Kelly (Lisa) Weaver of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Karl, Brody, and Laura Weaver, Austin, Neveah, and Ronan Weaver, and Bobby Weaver; a sister, Greta (Jerry) Upchurch of Brazil, IN; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. and Wilma Hedges, and a brother, Michael Hedges.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. John W. Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery.
