Helen Jane Risley, 94, of New Castle passed away Saturday, March 4, 2018 at her home. She was born January 7, 1924 in Greencastle, IN to the late William and Alma (Kemper) Farrow.
She is a graduate of Clinton Center High School (North Putnam) and attended Butler University and graduated from IU with a bachelors and masters degree. Helen retired in 1988 from teaching in Henry, Elkhart, Putnam and Hendricks counties. She had formerly been employed for the state superintendent of public instruction and had been a waitress. Helen was a member of the DAR, Shakespeare Club, Henry County and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, working with flowers, sewing, traveling and had been to all 50 states and 14 countries. Helen volunteered for various organizations for many years.
She is survived by two sons, John (Zina) Risley of Richfield, NC and David Risley of New Castle; grandson, Douglas (Melissa) Paris of Charlotte, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hobart Lee Risley, sister, Joyce Farrow and a nephew, Brian Risley.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in New Castle with Rev. Tom McGilliard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6th at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
