Herbert Leroy “Roy” Jackson, Jr., 92, formerly of Knightstown passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at I.U. Health-Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born August 25, 1928 in Hancock County, Indiana to the late Herbert Leroy and Opal Pearl (Smith) Jackson, Sr.
Roy retired from Avesta Corporation (formerly Ingersoll Steel) in 1985 after over 38 years of service. He was a veteran of U.S. Marines where he served in Korea. Roy was a member of Greensboro Church of the Nazarene and the Knightstown American Legion #152. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Nancy) Jackson of New Castle and Tim Jackson of Spiceland; four grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Smith, Tim, Jr. (Melissa) Jackson, Eric (Michelle) Jackson and Kati (Ben) Agan; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden, Cole and Macy Smith, June & October Jackson, Ashleigh, Evangeline and Aurora Jackson; brother, Larry Jackson of Muncie; sister, Naomi Haynes of Anderson; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene in 2000; infant son, James Leroy Jackson; a sister, Lois Ellen Hastings; brother, Dale E. Jackson and daughter-in-law: Patti Jackson.
Private services for the family will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor George Malloyed, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery with military rites conducted by a contingent of the U.S. Marines and the Knightstown American Legion. Memorial contributions can be given to the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene. Due to Covid-19 and the governor’s mandate, facial coverings will be required.
