Hershel Alexander

October 1, 1929 — January 10, 2019

Hershel Alexander, 89, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born October 1, 1929 in Pulaski County, KY, a son of the late Mansel and Eva (Phelps) Alexander.

Hershel was a member of the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene since 1956. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in Indianapolis and was a veteran of the United State Army. He loved sitting on his front porch and never met a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 68 years, Iva (Phelps) Alexander of New Castle; sons, Caroll “Carlie” (Sandy) Alexander of Shirley, Melvin (Nicole) Alexander of Grant City, and Kyle (Gabrielle) Alexander of Lafayette; grandchildren, Chastity (Scott) Davenport of Indianapolis, Paula (Bill) Peters of Shirley, Carlie Michelle Alexander of Indianapolis, Brandi (Steve) Alexander of Mooreland , Michael (Serena) Hampton of OH, Violet Alexander and Jeffery Alexander, both of Grant City; great grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Mills, Austin and Bailey VanHook, Sophi Alexander, Caroline Coomer, Sawyer Alexander, Emma Hampton, Sylvi Alexander, Danielle Hampton, and Jackson Hampton. Also, brothers, Wayne (Arlene) Alexander of Williamsburg, OH, and William (Pat) Alexander of Milford, OH; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Allen Mathew Alexander and Jimmy Wade Alexander; a brother, Marvin Duke Alexander; a sister, Earlene Richardson; and a great granddaughter, Kaytlyn Hampton.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Greensboro Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Randy Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, Florida 33607.
