Hertha Y. Luna

On July 4, 2022, Hertha Yvonne Luna (Cross) went home to be with the Lord. Hertha was born December 16, 1938 to the late Doris “Granny” Cross and the Byron “Pops” Cross.

She was a lifelong member of the Blountsville Christian Church, which her father built. Hertha leaves a legacy of family and memories cherished by those that knew her. She raised 6 children and everyone around the small town of Mooreland grew up calling her “mom”. Hertha never met a stranger and loved being close to her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Bernice (Huffman) Coffin; a brother, Milford Cross; son- in-law, James Atchley; granddaughter, Heather Burke Poe; nephew, Tony Cross; niece, Robin Cross Stubbs.

Hertha is survived by her husband, Frank Luna; children, Laquita (Poe) Perry, Rick (Patsy) Poe, Bret Poe, Tommy (Patricia) Ankrom, James Ankrom, Valerie (James) Atchley; she was a “Super Woman Grandma” to Amber Burton, Heather Poe Burke, Ryan Burton, Kaylei Ankrom, Riley Ankrom, Jennifer Ankrom, Angel Ankrom, Nathan Atchley, Tyler Atchley, Jessie Atchley, L aci Lairmore, Crystal Lairmore, Amber Atchley; great grandchildren; Justyce (Ian) Burton Krajewski, Keysa Malone (Diane Craine), David Malone, Aliah Burton, Raidyn Burton, Elliot Burton, Logan Burke, Dezirae (Jake) Burke Corder, Austin Burke, Savannah Ankrom, Hannah Ankrom, Brayden Ankrom, Barrett Atchley; three great great grandchildren, Penelope Corder, Holdyn Burke, and Averi Burke; sister-in-law, Sandra Cross; grandson-in-law, Joey Burke and several nieces & nephews.

Services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the funeral home. Hertha’s family invites any whom knew her to attend and share your memories.
