James "Jim" Loren Bradbury

January 22, 1924 — July 20, 2017

James “Jim” Loren Bradbury, 93, of Carmel passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospice. He was born in Fairbanks, IN to the late Dr. Dean and Goldia (Coryell) Bradbury.

Jim received his bachelors of Science at Indiana State University and also attended Purdue. He was a self made, brilliant, kind, considerate man and very giving to others. He achieved great success rising to the office of chief financial officer for Gulfstream Aeronautics. He was an Army veteran and had traveled the world extensively with Gulfstream Aeronautics. After living in California and Savannah, GA (Skidaway Island), he moved back to Indiana because of his love for the people of Indiana. Jim was an avid golfer and spent many of his years in retirement playing golf. He had the privilege of playing golf on the world renowned Augusta, GA golf course. In spite of his success he was a humble man who loved God. Much of his retirement years were spent giving back to others. His philosophy was “If you had a little something extra, take care of others” his life was full of good deeds to others, for those less fortunate, and always giving to others.

He never lost being kind to people and o’ so humble. He did not conduct business with “I’m right your wrong”, he listened, he spoke with confidence and wisdom. He approached things with facts and precise emotional control. He was not self righteous, he based all of his decisions not on emotions, but he would think things out. He never lashed out at others. People who did him wrong, he never hung on to those things. Never looked back, just forward thinking. Always being kind to others, he always gave back; St. Jude, the homeless shelters, the pet foundation, hospice and many other charities. “You make a little you always give back.” Never stop the flow of goodness. He met all of his responsibilities that God wants us to do for others, never expecting a dime in return. Mow your neighbor’s yard, “that veteran over there having dinner with his wife, send me their check”, his needs were always last. His love for his family was everything to him. Anyone who met Jim was inspired to be a better person.

Jim was the #1 patient at the St. Vincent Carmel Hospital, special thanks to Dr. Richard Fogle, Dr. David Hollensbe, Dr. Kenneth Ney and Dr. Kirk Akayden. Special thanks to all the nurses and palliative care team at both St. Vincent Hospital and St. Vincent Hospice. Special thanks to Brett Conrad, a special friend and confidant of James and Diana Bradbury.

He is survived by his wife, Diana (Lawless) Bradbury of Carmel; daughter, Susanne (Douglas) Westfall of Arvada, CO; son, William D. Bradbury of Woodstock, Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew) Inman, Sabrina Westfall, Daniel Westfall, Ashley Bradbury, Sarah Bradbury, Aaron Bradbury, Alexa Shea Bradbury, Kelsey Bradbury, Victoria Bradbury, Dalton Bradbury, 7 great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Richard and Lydia (Krider) Williams, several nieces and nephews, and his special kitties, Snickers and Pickles.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Krider) Bradbury and sister, Betty Westergaard.

Celebration of life will be at a later date in Colorado. Burial will be at Bradbury Cemetery, Sullivan, IN. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268. You my express condolences or share a memory at www.hinsey-brown.com .
