James T. “Jim” Thrasher, 81, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Heritage House of New Castle. He was born March 29, 1938 in New Castle, a son of the late Virgil and Artie (Smith) Thrasher.
A 1957 graduate of Chrysler High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from the New Castle Street Department and was a renowned chef, preparing meals for several celebrities. He was a crossing guard for New Castle Community Schools for many years and was a ticket taker at basketball games. He attended South Side Church of the Nazarene. Jim was a member of Moose & Elks Lodges, and was an avid Chicago Bears, IU Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Thrasher of Connersville and Tom (Rhonda) Thrasher of New Castle; three granddaughters, Allison (Nick) Spotts of Indianapolis, Ashley Thrasher of Columbus and Alyssa Thrasher of New Castle; great grandson, Carter Spotts; sister, Nettie Michelson of New Castle; brother, Earl (Sue) Thrasher of Muncie; sister-in-law, Donna Thrasher of Indianapolis; three brothers-in-law, Harold and Kenny Hacker, both of New Castle and Maurice (Elaine) Hacker of Missouri and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois in 2002; brothers, Harmon and Donald Thrasher; sisters, Vina Robinson and Anna Lines; and an infant brother, Ramey Edward Thrasher.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Gene Bennett and Alecia Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Batson Cemetery.
