Jerry D. Ballenger

Jerry D. Ballenger, 82, of New Castle, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born January 20, 1938 in New Castle, a son of the late Samuel D. and Emma (Pryor) Ballenger.

Jerry retired from Chrysler Corp. in New Castle in 2001 following 33 ½ years of service. While there, he served the last several years as the Safety Representative for UAW Local #371. He enjoyed playing in his band, Jerry Ballenger and the DJ’s, and loved country music. He also enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 51 years, Roberta Ballenger of New Castle; four children, Carol Wise of Lewisville, Sandra K. Ballenger of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Karen (Dennis) Dean of Richmond, and Mark (Shelly) Ballenger of Middletown; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnnie (Linda) Ballenger of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Slaven; seven siblings, Wendell, Samuel, Louis, Eddie, Linda, Bob, and Glenda.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the New Castle/Henry County First Aid Unit, 1315 “I” Ave., New Castle, IN , 47362.
