Joe Shelby Duvall, 99, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in IU Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born October 24, 1919 in Clinton County, KY, a son of the late Charles Perkins and Mary Serverne (Ross) Duvall.
A veteran of the United States Army, Joe served during World War II. He retired from Chevrolet in Muncie following 30 years of service. He was a member of the Greensboro Masonic Lodge, and the Moose Lodge #147 in New Castle. He loved to fish, travel, play pool and cards. He also enjoyed being around family and eating out. Joe was a very caring and loving person who would help out anyone in need. Worthy of mention, he shook hands with Sgt. Alvin C. York on a dare from his friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his second wife, Marilyn June (Gross) Duvall of New Castle; stepchildren, Dianna (Robin) Aurs of Carthage, Thomas Gross of Knightstown and Elizabeth (Robert) Simerly of New Castle; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Waudean (Ross) Duvall and a son, Timothy Joe Duvall; also, a sister, Earnesteen Duvall.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Karl Niles officiating, and where Masonic Rites will be conducted by Greensboro Masonic Lodge. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
