John “Guy” Hancock, age 90, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born June 25, 1925 in Forbus, Tennessee to the late Macmert and Florence (Dishman) Hancock.
A World War II veteran of the United States Army, he served at the Battle of the Bulge. He grew up on Hancock Mountain near Monticello, Kentucky. A Kentucky Colonel, he owned and operated Hancock’s Standard Marathon Station for over 45 years. Guy attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and loved horses. He liked spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Guy never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Emojean (Winchester) Hancock whom he married June 10, 1960; three children, Jeffery Guy (Jamie) Hancock of New Castle, James “Jim” Lon (Roxane) Hancock of Lawrenceburg, IN and John Saul Hancock of Baggs, WY; grandchildren, Jessica Hancock, Justin Hancock (special friend, Heather Woods), Jared (Ashley) Hancock, Bridgett Hancock, Breanna Hancock, Ken and Liz Ritchie, and Mariah Logan (special friend, Zach Catron); great grandchild, Colton Hancock; siblings, Gladys Roy of Columbia, KY, Earl Hancock of Monticello, KY, Bonnie Jane Claywell of Columbia, KY and Chrisann Neat of Columbia, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Fred, Carl, Glenna, and Bess Hancock, Lois Piercy, Hazel Fulton, Eva Jones and Doris Stinton.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 at Grand Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Piper officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
