Julia K. Logston

Julia K. Logston, 84, of Richmond, IN entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 15, 2018. She was born April 18, 1933 in New Castle to Oville and Juanita Armstrong.
In 1952, she married Jim Logston. To this 25 year union was born four children; Cindy, Gary, Phil and Jamie. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1951 and was the recipient of the Elizabeth Howren award given to a graduating senior girl for medical education.
She received three college degrees; an R.N. Associate degree from Indiana University East, a Baccalaureate BSN degree from IUPUI in Indianapolis and a Masters degree from Ball State in Muncie. She was recognized in “Who’s Who in American Universities” and achieved the Graduate student award for “Nursing Excellence.” She was employed by I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis and by Reid Hospital in Richmond.
She established and maintained a private counseling practice in Richmond, IN for several years. During this time she was recognized in “Who’s Who among Human Service Professionals.” From 1983 to 1998 she was a professor of nursing psychology for the nursing department at Indiana University East.
Music has always been an important part of her life. She served as church organist for 36 years and directed several choral and musical presentations. During this time she also taught organ and gave private piano lessons.
In addition to music, she enjoyed traveling, vacationing every year with her siblings, sewing and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The focus of her life was serving God and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Evelyn Humbles, a son: Gary in 1983, a son: Jamie in 2017, a grandson: Andrew Branham in 1998: a sister-in-law, Debbie Armstrong and brother-in-law, Mike Bertram
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, Cynthia (Mark) Conrad of Columbus, IN and Phillip Logston of Ft. Worth, TX; daughters-in-law, Debbie Logston of New Castle and Teresa Sharp of Hagerstown.
Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Angie (Jay) Meadors and their children, Macey, Madison and Paxton of Lynn, IN; Ryan (Nichole) Logston and their children, Taylynn, Tyler and Kenley of Ft. Worth, TX; Adam (Risty) Logston of Granbury, TX; Josh (Mindy) Logston and their children, Jace and Cade of New Castle; Nathan (Lynn) Logston and their children Ella and Zack; Matthew (Thera) Logston and their children Elijah and Isaiah of Hagerstown; Seth (Brianna) Logston of Greenfield.
She is survived by three siblings, “Bob” Keith (Helen) Armstrong of Montgomery, TX, Mike Armstrong of Terre Haute and Vickie Bertram of New Castle; also a sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Reno of Winchester.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Foursquare Church in New Castle with Reverends’ Larry Stevison and Kendall Harris officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20th at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour before the service at Foursquare Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Julia Logston Memorial Fund, c/o Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
