Julie Hutchens

Julie Hutchens, 66, of New Castle passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at her residence. She was born September 15, 1955 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Melvin and Marilyn Lucille (Miller) Cole, Jr.

Julie was employed at Glen Oaks Health Campus and had previously worked at Oakwood for 10 years and Turtle Creek in New Castle. She had been employed as project manager for a computer firm. Julie was a 1973 graduate of Chrysler High School, where she was active in the cheer block. She then attended Ivy Tech and IU East, receiving a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was a devout Christian and had a mentor group “God’s Apples” for women. She was a member of Teen Ambassadors a teen Christian singing group where she met her husband Mike. Julie had a passion for her family, camping, music, and playing the fiddle.

Julie is survived by her husband, Mike Hutchens, whom she married July 21, 1973; sons, Michael Hutchens of Pompano Beach, Florida and Zach (Caitlin) Hutchens of New Castle; grandchildren, Alan Hutchens of Jacksonville, Florida, Landon Hutchens and Jazmyn Hutchens, both of Selma; sister, Lori (Marc) Garrard of Fortville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Julie is preceded in death by a daughter, Christa Diane Hutchens.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday December 9, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service New Castle. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Davis officiating with calling one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
