Larry J. Denney, 73, of Mooreland, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home in Mooreland. He was born March 5, 1944 in New Castle, IN, to Elmer “Tip” and Donna (Davis) Denney.
A Mooreland resident most of his life, he graduated from Mooreland High School in 1962, where he was President of his Senior Class. On November 3, 1962, he wed Sara Thornburg. Larry was born again in April, 1966 at the Christian Church in Blountsville, IN, where he served the Lord faithfully as a member of the church for many years. Along with teaching Sunday School, he led the churches nursing home ministry. His love was studying his Bible. He also loved teasing his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and planting a large garden each year. Larry worked at Dana Corp. in New Castle for 28 ½ years, and then at Visteon In Connersville for 15 years.
In addition to his wife of over 55 years, Sara, he is survived by their three children, Jeffery (Andrea) Denney of Mooreland, Laurie (Jerry) Madlung of Lafayette, and Marcia (Roy) Hughes of Bloomington; a brother, Roger Denney of Mooreland; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Hanson, Joel (Jenna) Denney, Kaylyn Denney, Kendra Denney, Preston (Nikki) Sadler, Kendall (Samantha) Sadler, Douglas Sadler II, Kaleigh Hughes, Kristen Hughes and Keith Hughes; six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray and James Edward Denney; grandchildren, Amanda Leigh-Anna Hughes and Laith Denney; son-in-law, Douglas Sadler I, and in-laws, Ervin and Martha Thornburg.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Blountsville Christian Church with Pastor Jerry Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wilbur Wright Birthplace, 1525 N. 750 E, Hagerstown, IN 47346, or the Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090-7251. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
