Leland T. Atkinson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Leland T. Atkinson, 95, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Henry Community Health in New Castle. He was born September 3, 1925 in Clinton County, Kentucky to the late William J. and Edra E. (York) Atkinson. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II and has gone on two Honor Flights. Leland had been employed by the State of Indiana and was assistant surveyor at Henry County Surveyors Office. A founding member of the Big Blue River Conservation District, he was instrumental in bringing Westwood Lake & Summit Lake to the Henry County area. He was a member and served on the board of Foursquare Church. Leland worked at all branches of Citizens State Bank and most recently was branch manager at Citizens State Bank at Lewisville for 26 years. Leland was a member of New Castle Masonic Lodge, Order of the York Rite and Lewisville Lions Club. He loved family vacations, camping, fishing, cooking, canning and berry picking. A nature lover and bird enthusiast, he loved going on family vacations. He was also a beekeeper and enjoyed sharing his honey with others. Survivors include his daughter, Donna (Mike) McLaughlin of Muncie; son, Bruce (Kim) Atkinson of New Castle; brother, Don (Stella) Atkinson of Cadiz; brothers-in-law, Joe Perdue of New Castle and Arnold (Dean) Stinson of Nashville, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews & cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2015; daughter, Pam in 2013; brother, Delano Atkinson and sister, Gail Perdue. A private service will be held for the family with Pastors Jim Becker, Greg Everson and Shelly Dennis. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
