Luther “Gene” Cross, 73, of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette following a brief illness. He was born July 18, 1948 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Delmer and Wilma (Hogan) Cross.
Gene was a 1967 graduate of Blue River Valley High School and worked at Chrysler Corp. following 37 years of employment. For many years while working at Chrysler, he also worked for Roger Ward. After enjoying many years going to sporting events for his daughters and granddaughters, Gene decided to start driving the school bus. He drove for many years for the Blue River Valley boys and girls sports teams and enjoyed seeing each of the children grow through the years. He loved fishing, hunting and caring for his beloved miniature horses. Gene also enjoyed watching his daughters and granddaughters compete and show in 4-H over the years. One of his favorite pastimes was having breakfast at the Park Restaurant and the Early Bird Diner with his longtime friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Jodee (Andy) Lanzer and Jill Cross (Chris Roush); grandchildren, Julie and Jessie Lanzer; brother, Donnie (Marilyn) Cross; a special cousin, Peggy (Bob) Ponto and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife on August 9, 2021, Connie M. Cross.
A memorial service for both Gene and Connie will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Friends may visit from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Gene at
