Margaret R. Adams, age 94, of New Castle, passed away on Thursday, August 1st at Hickory Creek Healthcare Center. She had a long battle with dementia.

She was born Margaret Ruth Kaiser August 28, 1924 at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She grew up in East Germantown, also known as Pershing, in Wayne County. She attended Lincoln High School in Cambridge City.

Margaret married her husband of 76 years, Jesse E. Adams, Sr., on August 28, 1942, in Pershing, in her parents’ living room. They had a wedding night dinner in Muncie, and then returned to their apartment on South 14th Street. Margaret spent her entire married life as a New Castle resident. This coming August 28th would have been their 77th anniversary.

She was a World War II war bride and a homemaker who raised three sons. She was a 50+ year member of the Pythian Sisters Venus Temple #50, achieving the rank of Past Chief. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a 25 year volunteer in the gift shop of the Henry County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church of New Castle.

Margaret loved to travel. She and Jess spent many winters in Florida in their retirement years. From 1989 to 2006 they made more than 20 road trips to Colorado to visit their son Jesse and his family.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Jess Adams. Also by her sons, Denny Adams and Jesse E. Adams, Jr., both of New Castle. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Chris Adams (Michele) of New Castle; Jodi (Keith) Goff of New Castle; Jessica (Kyle) Larson of Middletown; David (Sheila) Adams of Fort Morgan, Colorado; and Marjorie Adams of Milliken, Colorado. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Chrystal Adams, David Lee Adams, Merrick Adams, Diana Adams, Maylan Adams, Destiny Adams, Phillip Griffin, Celine Magdaleno, Mia Magdaleno, Paige Larson and Parker Larson; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was proceeded in death by her son, James L. Adams (Jim); her grandsons, Jon and Tim Adams; parents, John & Maude Schildtknecht Kaiser; her step-mother, Stella Kaiser McNew; brothers, Harold, Homer and Harry Kaiser; and sisters, Lucille Evans and Pearl Philbeck.

Friends may call at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service on Thursday, August 8th from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Pythian Sisters memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown. Family members will conduct the service with Scripture reading, prayer, and the sharing of memories to honor the life and love of Margaret. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of CNAs, nurses, dietary staff and administrators at Hickory Creek Healthcare Center for their excellent care of Margaret during her illness.

The family also wishes to thank Julie Archey RN, aide Helen Boyatt, and chaplain Toby Smith of Southern Care Hospice Services for their devoted care of Margaret during her final days.
