Margaret Ann Long

September 12, 1926 — March 31, 2021

Margaret Ann (Madigan) Long, 94, formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away Wednesday morning, March 31, 2021 at her home in Indianapolis. She was born September 12, 1926 in Terre Haute to the late George Charles and Anna E. (McCammon) Madigan.

Margaret held a lifetime teacher’s license, having earned her degree in Elementary Education from Indiana Central College. She was formerly employed as an elementary school teacher, having taught at Fairbanks and Greenwood Elementary schools. She had also served as Church Secretary for Breden Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime member. Margaret was active in numerous aspects of the church, especially in children’s ministry. She had been Director of the children’s department, coordinated and led Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday school and had been a youth leader. Along with serving on various church boards, she also led Bible Study and was Choir Director for many years.

Margaret also served on the Board of Directors for the Light House Mission in Terre Haute and was active with the 14th & Chestnut Community Center for school age children. Margaret was a lifetime Girl Scout, a long time troop leader, Day Camp director and First-Aid trainer. Margaret was an accomplished musician and enjoyed singing and playing piano. She often played piano for church and for worship services at the senior apartment building where she lived after moving to Indianapolis.An avid outdoors person, she enjoyed camping and playing basketball in her earlier years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Margaret is survived by a son: Michael Edward (Maryann) Long of Warren, PA; two daughters; Mary Louise (Anthony) Branch of West Chester, OH and Sharon Lynn (Jeff) Clark of Indianapolis; ten grandchildren; Anna (Brad) Bielawski, Jessica Long, Christopher Black, Steven Black, Melissa (Ivan) Rowland, Angela (Chris) Asselin, Jennifer Black, Mistianne Figueroa, Nicholas (Julie) Clark, and Joshua Clark; twelve great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren and a niece: Dixie Lee (Bob) Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years: Bertis Edward “Ed” Long; a sister: Louise Madigan; two brothers: Edward and Terrence Madigan; a niece and three nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at DeBaun Funeral Home - Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute with services to follow. Pastor Dan Eckart and Rev. Deb Moore-Hardin will officiate. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breden Memorial United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana.
