Margaret Peckinpaugh

June 17, 1918 — September 20, 2013

Margaret E. Peckinpaugh, age 95, of New Castle, passed away September 20, 2013 at Glen Oaks Health Campus where she had resided for the past 6 years. She was born June 17, 1918 in Sullivan, Indiana to the late Elza Herbert and Ellen (Hudson) Jackson.

She was a 1936 graduate of Pleasantville High School in Sullivan County, Indiana. Margaret moved to New Castle in late 1939 where she met her husband, Dale W. Peckinpaugh. They were married on February 10, 1940. She and her husband farmed east of New Castle for many years. She was a member of the Henry County Heart Society, Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Club, Farm Bureau and Henry County Extension Homemakers. She was also very active in 4-H for many years, a member of the Live and Learn Club and was president of the resident's council at Glen Oaks the past 3 years. Margaret loved to garden and received various awards over the years at local, county and state fairs. Margaret was also a great cook. She won or placed highly several times in the Courier-Times recipe contests. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt. Many have been blessed by her beaded socks, crocheted names and hand-sewn quilts. Margaret taught many others to crochet and quilt. She loved to pass on her skills to others. She was also very active in the Democrat Party. Even though she was always busy she took great care of her family.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Chris) Peckinpaugh of Westminster, CO and Rex (Bonnie) Peckinpaugh of New Castle; three grandchildren, Brett (Sara) Peckinpaugh of Virginia Beach, VA, Bradley (Amy) Peckinpaugh of Ft. Wayne, IN and Brian (Susan) Peckinpaugh of Ft. Mills, SC; two step-grandchildren, Sean (Lindsey) Gallagher of Greenwood, IN and Erin Gallagher (fiancé, Chris Foy) of Muskegon, MI; eleven great-grandchildren; Brother Richard (Sheila) Jackson of New Castle; Sister-in-law Deloris Peckinpaugh of Sulphur Springs, IN; several nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and life-long friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, in 1995; infant daughter, Janet Peckinpaugh; three sisters, Lorraine Enochs, Agnes Patterson and Anchor Anders.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, with Reverend Paul Dale Enochs officiating. Burial will follow in Springport Woodlawn Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
