Marianne Wright

Marianne Wright peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2021.

Born December 28, 1934 in La Porte, Indiana, she is the daughter of the late Alois and Mary (Reed) Hagenow. Marianne married Charles “Ed” Wright 66 years ago on April 9, 1955 in La Porte, Indiana.

Marianne graduated from La Porte High School and from Ball State University with a BS degree and a MA degree. She taught school at Alexandria Community Schools, Muncie Community School, and Madison-Grant Schools. During the teaching years in Muncie, Marianne was a member of the group which established the Muncie Reading Association and the Indiana Reading Teachers Association, she held offices with these organizations and shared her numerous teaching techniques. Marianne worked as a consultant for Harcourt Brace Book Company during the late 80's. Also, Marianne was a partner with Ed in the family farming operation, which included Wrights Seed Farm and tomatoes grown for processing. They welcomed visitors from local areas, other states and other countries to visit the farming operations serving meals and offering Hoosier hospitality.

Marianne was a member of Prairie Grove Church where she served as clerk for a number of years. She also attended Living Hope Church. Marianne was a former member of Altrusa Club where she held office and was an active supporter of literacy projects. She was a member of Well Wishes Home Ec Club since 1958, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Getting Their Investment Club, and served on the board for the Back-to-School Teachers Store where she also volunteered.

Her hobbies included gardening, mowing the yard and farm areas, reading, tutoring when needed, cooking (especially baking pies) for small and large groups, writing poems for friends and special occasions and witnessing to others by writing countless letters to friends and family.

Marianne was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Ed” Wright of 54 years, her sister Bonnie, and grandson Bryan Richards.

She is survived by her sister Jean and her 3 children: Mary and husband Mike Bookout and grandchildren Brad and wife Megan Richards and great grandchildren Bryar and Maggie, Ashley and husband Luke Blake and great grandchildren Carson, Adalyn, and Elizabeth, Jennifer Richards and Kyle Parks and great grandchildren Natalie, and Sydney; Bonnie and husband David Besser and grandchildren Joshua and Katie Besser and grandchildren Carson and Sydney, and Jacob and Amanda Besser and great grandchild Logan; Howard and wife Lisa Wright and grandchildren Charles Wright, Matthew and wife Samantha Wright and great grandchildren Elijah and Emma, Jodi and husband Chris Tomlinson and great granddaughters Megan, Paige, and Hope; sister, Jean and husband Keith Holmes; sister-in-law Norette Barnett. Marianne was very special to her 14 nieces and nephews Vickie, Ann, Kay, Janet, Janice, Claudia, Gary, Cheri, David, Randy, Allen, Brad, Jennifer, and Bill along with their spouses and children.

The family will have a private service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the following charities that Marrianne was passionate about.
