Mary Coffey

March 16, 1925 — May 19, 2017

Mary Coffey was born Mary Virginia Robinson, March 16, 1925 southwest of Middletown, Indiana in the Possum Glory community of Madison County, Indiana. She was the fourth child of Fred and Edith Robinson. She attended Fall Creek Heights Elementary School and graduated from Markleville High School. (1943) During WWII, she worked the night shift at Delco Remy in Anderson and operated a Farmall tractor, cultivating corn, with her father while her older brothers served in the war .

Mary went to Ball State University and studied elementary education. She taught at Fall Creek Heights, Cadiz and Wilbur Wright Elementary school in New Castle. She retired from teaching in 1975. In 1972, Mary had a new home built on the family farm at Maple Lane near Cadiz; where, following the death of her mother in 1968, she became the primary caregiver for her father until his death in 1983.

In 1992, Mary married James Neil Coffey. They lived at Maple Lane until 2014 when they moved to New Albany, Indiana. In the 1950’s, Mary obtained her pilot's license and logged many hours in a single engine Cessna flying out of the airport at Middletown. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, gardening, and her many dogs and cats. Throughout her life, Mary held firm to the Christian faith and worshiped at Cadiz Christian Church.

Mary was preceded into Life with our Savior by her parents, her husband, her sister Barbara Edwards and her brother Joseph Robinson. She leaves wonderful memories with friends and family including: brothers Ben Robinson, of Alexandria, VA., Jack Robinson of Raleigh, NC., sister-in-law Clairbelle Robinson of Lebanon, IN., daughter Lori Hawk of Pekin, IN, grandson Daniel Hawk, two great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom she loved and for whom she regularly prayed.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 26th, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 South Memorial Drive, Newcastle, IN. Visitation will be from 2-3 PM prior to the service.
